New Site and Blog to Come Soon…


I’ve mentioned a few times over the last couple of months that I am working on a new website / blog. Given this endeavor, I made the decision over the weekend to cease blogging on this site so that I can put all my efforts into readying my new site for its release. I will not shut this blog down, though I will eventually forward it to my new site when I release it. In the interim I will still respond to all comments.

I look forward to announcing the opening of my new site sometime before the end of this calendar year. Please stay tuned!

Day 297 – 2011 Plan


I overslept this morning. I went to an event last night that kept me out a bit late and that involved wine consumption. MFZ does not like working out in the evenings so I was on my own. After work I did a quick WOD—50 burpees, 25 pull-ups.

My Helga Diet today:

  • Breakfast  Bob’s Red Mill steel-cut oats with 1T real maple syrup
  • Snack 1  Zone nutrition bar
  • Lunch – large green salad with grilled chicken and light vinaigrette
  • Snack 2  apple, peanut butter
  • Dinner – grilled veggie burrito
  • Snack 3 – Shakeology shake

Day 296 – 2011 Plan


MFZ and I drug ourselves (unhappily) out of bed this morning at 4:52AM. On the agenda was P90X Plus Upper Body Plus. Despite being exceptionally tired–yawning while your heart is beating at 130 beats per minutes seems strange–I had a decent workout.

My Helga Diet today:

  • Breakfast  cage-free eggs scrambled with organic spinach, slice Dave’s Killer Bread with organic preserves
  • Snack 1  Zone nutrition bar
  • Lunch – Jimmy John’s ham sandwich
  • Snack 2  apple, peanut butter
  • Dinner – grilled veggie sandwich, organic tomato soup
  • Snack 3 – Shakeology shake

Day 295 – 2011 Plan


I had an active weekend. In addition to spending several hours on my soon to release website I took a long-ass bike ride. The weather was permitting yesterday–a rarity this time of year in Portland–so I went for a 60-mile ride. Post pedal I did a set of 50 push-ups and 25 pull-ups.

Given Sunday’s workout I decided to rest today. Tomorrow MFZ and I will resume P90X Plus.

My Helga Diet today:

  • Breakfast  cage-free eggs scrambled with organic spinach, slice Dave’s Killer Bread with organic preserves
  • Snack 1  Zone nutrition bar
  • Lunch – Jimmy John’s ham sandwich

Day 291 – 2011 Plan


I overslept this morning so an early workout was a non-starter. Following a fiercely long day of HR legal seminars I did manage to get in a round of P90X Chest and Back this evening. I was on my own though—MFZ opted out.

  • Breakfast  old-fashioned oats with 1/2 cup milk
  • Snack 1  Zone nutrition bar
  • Lunch small cheeseburger, green salad with light vinaigrette
  • Snack 2  banana, peanut butter
  • Dinner free-range beef tacos with organic red cabbage
  • Snack 3 – Shakeology shake

Day 290 – 2011 Plan

Today was a Yoga X day for me, and I actually did the entire 90-minute routine–usually I cut it short. It has been some time since I have done yoga; I forgot how much I hate / love it. I felt stiff and uncoordinated throughout the routine, but much more limber by its end.

My Helga Diet today:

  • Breakfast  old-fashioned oats with 1/2 cup milk
  • Snack 1  Zone nutrition bar
  • Lunch – large organic green salad with grilled chicken
  • Snack 2  banana, peanut butter
  • Dinner – roasted chicken and delicata squash

Day 289 – 2011 Plan

MFZ and I drug ourselves out of bed this morning at 4:52AM; we got dressed, and then lumbered out to our garage-gym for a round of P90X plyo. I have not done plyo in sometime so it felt nice to revisit it. We were supposed to do Interval X Plus, but I caught a few minutes of Beerfest staring plyo’s Erik Stolhanske on cable last night, and a wave of nostalgia came over me.

My Helga Diet today:

  • Breakfast  2 scrambled cage-free eggs; slice Dave’s Killer Bread
  • Snack 1  nitrate-free pork jerky
  • Lunch – large organic green salad with grilled chicken
  • Snack 2  banana, peanut butter
  • Dinner – shredded free-range beef tacos
  • Snack 3 – Shakeology shake
